Do I need a building permit for my swimming pool or spa?
Yes. Swimming pools and spas, both in-ground and above-ground, greater than 300mm in depth require a building permit before construction starts, and to install or alter a safety barrier including any windows, doors and gates that provide access to the pool area.
Does my pool or spa barrier comply with regulations?
We carry out onsite inspections of pool and spa barriers to confirm compliance with current Australian Standards, and provide solutions wherever we find areas of non-compliance.
Can we use the existing timber paling fence as a pool barrier?
It depends on the fence's height, gaps and gate hardware against AS1926.1. We assess your existing fencing and advise exactly what, if anything, needs to change to make it compliant.
The pool or spa is no longer used — what are my obligations?
Safety barrier obligations generally continue to apply while the pool or spa remains in place. Speak with us about your specific circumstances and what is required to remain compliant or to decommission safely.
